Education Programs in Communities
The Education Programs in Communities (EPIC) initiative aims to transform schools and educational centers in low-income housing developments within urban municipalities. EPIC uniquely addresses the achievement and opportunity gaps as well as systemic issues of poverty by leveraging a residents-based model for the service delivery of out-of-school time education.
This community-based program is uniquely cross-pollinated to address the academic underperformance of underserved youth and economic development issues plaguing lower-income neighborhoods. Individuals living in and within close proximity to identified public housing facilities and community centers will be trained and integrated into the delivery of our high-quality educational programming for K-12 students. Additionally, at each site Equity in Education will partner with local school systems to ensure programming is aligned to the most important levers for student achievement.
EPIC is a multi-tiered strategy anchored in community and economic development and education. Through this program, our objective is to improve the learning outcomes of students living in poverty; to retrain an existing workforce living in urban municipalities; to cultivate and deepen pipelines of talent in the educational sector; and, to enhance learning delivered to K-12 students within housing developments and within local school systems.
